On Thursday afternoon while on patrol, our Clarendon Dedicated Patrol Service (DPS) Officer noticed a suspicious-looking male walking down 7th Avenue. The male’s behaviour towards the response officer (W2) made him turn around to investigate.
W2 called for backup, and both our Area Commander and DPS Commander arrived to assist in the investigation.
Our team contacted the Walmer SAPS for assistance, who immediately responded. The suspect confessed that he had been in court already for the possession of stolen goods and that he stole the copper pipes and taps off a bakkie in Targetkloof.
In the interim, the Control Room contacted our DPS Commander to inform him that our client in Lloyd Street had a theft incident at his property. We proceeded to the address and the client confirmed that the pipes and taps in the suspect’s possession were theirs.
Our CCTV desk checked the camera footage of the Atlas Security Cameras in the area and confirmed that the suspect is seen coming out of the property in Lloyd Street with the pipes and taps. This confirmed that the suspect was lying about stealing the copper off a bakkie in Targetkloof.
The SAPS arrested the suspect, and a case was opened.
We want to thank Captain Nel and Colonel Mclean for their speedy assistance. They were true examples of a strong police force, and we are proud to work side by side with SAPS Officers of their calibre.
