The Atlas Security Operations team was kept busy as Nelson Mandela Bay was host to a high crime rate for a second week in a row. As the lockdown is easing, so the crime is intensifying as criminals are able to move around a lot more freely.
The Atlas Security Control Room reports a high 28 burglaries this week, a figure that is higher than normal, and not expected to drop anytime soon. It is crucial that residents set their alarm system whenever leaving their homes or businesses. An incident occurred in which a client left their home to quickly go to their local grocery store, but forgot their mask at home so had to return home sooner than planned. When they arrived home the suspects were inside the house and had already taken the TV off the wall, with the domestic worker in the back room unaware of the intrusion. The suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle. This demonstrates that the criminals are aware of how long it takes you to go to where you need to go, they do their homework. So when you think “we will only be gone for 10 minutes”, keep in mind that’s more than enough time for a criminal to empty your home.
With high crime stats comes great success as the Operations Team were able to apprehend another 8 criminals and hand them over to the SAPS. Saying that we are back would be a false statement, as with the amount of criminals we have caught during the National Lockdown is proof that we had never left.
