The Chain Gang team rode their 4th event this weekend and this year are proudly sponsored by Atlas Security. The team consists of a mix of St Francis Bay and Port Elizabeth riders and this year, for the first time, they entered a mixed team of 10 men and 2 ladies. The team riders are: Keith Donaldson (Team Captain) (PE), Arno Du Plessis (PE), Craig Townsend (PE), Greg Gouveris (PE), Ian Walland (PE), Jamie Loots (PE), Juanita Mackenzie (PE), Olivia Read PE), Lionel Swales (PE), Tony Butler (SFB), Jonathan Paarman (SFB) and Roland Peacock (SFB). Friendships are made, strengthened and sometimes broken, but never for long, as teams push on to meet the 16h30 Swellendam deadline.
The Atlas Security Chain Gang DC Team were hoping to beat their time of 7hrs and 20 mins from last year’s DC race and manage to smash that time crossing this year’s finish line in 6hrs and 38 minutes. This saw them finish in 141st place out of the 280 teams that entered.
The teams overall goal is to always get all 12 riders across the finish line which they successfully managed to do which earned them their 3rd Charles Milner Medal – a special team medal awarded in addition to their normal finisher’s medal.
Atlas Security is proud to associate our brand with the locals of St Francis Bay as our CCTV network has recently stretched to St Francis Bay. The St Francis Bay cameras are linked to our state-of-the-art 24/7 monitoring centre. The expansion of this network is just one more weapon for the security power house in the ongoing fight against crime. Earlier this month Atlas Security reached a massive landmark of commissioning the 1000th CCTV camera to be monitored in the locally based control room.
The support team consisted of Lindsay Peacock, Fern Swales and Shelley Donaldson and they took on the important role of getting to the 2 feeding stations along the route, ensuring the team are well fed, watered and looked after.
Team Captain, Keith Donaldson, commented that he was extremely proud of the team efforts, the great camaraderie and the grit and determination shown by the entire team. Keith and the team were proud to represent Atlas Security and Port Elizabeth and are extremely grateful to Mr Schewitz for his generous sponsorship of the team kit.
