To be empowered with knowledge is something we would like to grant each and every one of our clients. In the security industry, one always needs to be over-prepared; we could all become victims of crime and we never know where or when it may happen.
Since we don’t want you to gamble with your safety, we are constantly monitoring crime trends in order to keep you informed. We have done an analysis of the crime trends we’ve been monitoring between August and December 2017:
• October – saw the most positive burglaries
• August – had the most attempted burglaries
• October – experienced the most armed robberies
• September – the most house robberies were reported
• Sidwell had the highest crime rate throughout the last few months of the year
• Windows and front doors were most used as points of entry
• Overall, commercial sites were targeted the most
The above information provides insight when forecasting crime trends. Although this cannot tell us exactly when or where crimes will be committed, it does equip us with valuable information relating to prevailing and developing crime trends. Going forward, commercial properties are warned of an increase in crimes like armed robberies and burglaries, specifically over the Festive Season. Shut downs happen and premises are left vacant for a long period of time.
We also had a few incidents were schools were targeted over the holiday season. The perpetrators target school vans which are parked in garages or elsewhere on school property – make sure you have a caretaker on site that checks everything thoroughly and that there is sufficient protection at all times.
Windows are still the most used entry point – other than roof and sliding door entries. Make sure you have magnetic contacts on your windows or sufficient protection should burglars attempt to gain entry through a window. We do also offer the ARP (Atlas Roof Protector) which is specifically designed and positioned to detect roof entries.
