FROM THE CDM’s DESK: WITH BIGGER CHALLENGES COME BIGGER SUCCESSES
Let’s be honest: so much about COVID-19 is outside of our control. Not just the virus itself, but all the other aspects of life that might be impacted, from work and finances to socialising and travel. Just as the virus has impacted you and your family, it has had a massive impact on how we, at Atlas Security, continue to do business.
Yes, it has been business as usual on most levels for us, but we found ourselves redirecting our focus as crime shifted and changed over the last few weeks. Closely monitoring movement and modus operandi of these criminals to ensure we equip our team and our clients on how to safeguard themselves at all times. Our prediction of commercial crimes rising during this time became a reality, but our increased focus and visibility led to some successful arrests, stopping these criminals in their tracks and recovering stolen goods. With people being at home it has brought the reality of house robberies to the forefront for us. This is a very real threat and we would like to urge our community to NOT let their guards down and to remain vigilant at all times. We are unfortunately easy targets when at home as we let our guards down and are more likely to make it easy for these criminals to victimize us and gain access to our properties.
Our team has also been facing a different challenge to normal, as they now not only focus on fighting crime but they have also needed to focus on the health risks that come with the job. Face masks, sanitisers and gloves in hand; the team has been armed with knowledge and tools to do just that.
What can you do to safeguard yourself against a house robbery?
1. Stay vigilant.
2. Arm your alarm.
3. Report any suspicious movement or people.
4. Keep security gates locked, even when your doors are open.
5. Make sure your outside areas are well lit.
6. Do not open the door to strangers.
7. Don’t keep the same routine when going to the shop.
