Monty’s Crime Report: Don’t become a victim!
This week house robbers were in action across the Metro. Atlas Operations Manager, urges residents not to become another statistic believing it will not happen to you, rather have Atlas Security do a full risk assessment free of charge and quote on extra protection or check the quality of your current alarm system. Even when crime statistics may show a slight decrease, let’s stay sharp and vigilant. “I assure you there have been far too many attempts where we have managed to prevent losses.” said Monty.
What can you do to be part of the solution?
Thanks to the SAPS and the community’s assistance including our CCTV infrastructure ,we have a good success rate with arrests. Let’s keep this partnership up and work together.
Monty advises residents to actively participate in the fight against crime by being the eyes of law enforcement and keeping ears to the ground. Listen and peep out your window when your neighbour’s burglar alarm activates. If you see anything, report it to the security company and the SAPS.
Some important deterrents Monty believes in are sufficient outdoor lighting and owning big dogs; he finds that the type of dog plays a big role when burglars choose their victims – with larger, louder dogs being a more obvious deterrent than smaller breeds.
Remember that these criminals change their times and areas to suite them. Last week Thursday was high this week it’s moved to Tuesday – let’s keep sharp.
Will you open a case against a suspect, or let him go? After a burglary, Monty urges residents, business owners and keyholders to come out to the scene as quick as possible. This is to ensure the safety of your goods and allows the Response Officers to attend to other emergencies. Family members and employees come and go, so make sure your keyholder details are updated on our system. Whoever is looking after your home must be in town, know about your burglar alarm procedure and their responsibilities as a key holder. For more information please contact our Control Centre on 0861 585 585 or email firstname.lastname@example.org .
Another extremely high crime is theft of / theft out of motor vehicles. The criminal element is taking advantage and targeting vehicles parked outside. Unfortunately, these residents are forced to leave their vehicles in an unprotected space.
Remember: Bathroom windows tend to be the “windows of opportunity”.Ensure that perimeter doors are fitted with adequate locks and that your front door has a substantial safety latch and a door viewer. All windows should be fitted with burglar bars. Install outside lights that can be controlled from inside the house. Consider installing outside lighting that is activated by motion detectors. Trim and maintain tall hedges, plants and trees that can obscure your view of your property.
Lastly there are two important places where criminals should not be able to gain access to: your safe and your alarm panel. Contact Atlas Security for more advice on this matter.
Stay safe and rest assured, your world is secure in Atlas’ hands.
