This week, Monty Montgomery, Atlas Operations Manager, noticed that roof entries have increased – in both domestic and industrial areas. Most of the sites targeted are underprotected, making it extremely easy for criminals to enter. Monty always reminds business owners to evaluate the value inside their buildings and compare that with the type of protection in place.

This week burglars ransacked a Claudine Way, Framesby Gardens residence leaving it in a state.
Entry was gained via the bathroom window as well as the roof. Residents are reminded to:
– Check that you have sufficient protection – especially in the roof and bathroom.
– Always lock away garden tools.
– Look out for your neighbours – If you hear a strange noise – be sure to investigate cautiously.
Stay safe.

Monty explains that when burglars break through a roof, subscribers must realize and know that criminals are very clever. They plan their intrusions very carefully – obviously around the burglar alarm system so that they can go about their work without any interruptions. Their mission is to bypass the burglar alarm system.

Therefore Monty urges readers to be smart – do not follow the norm by installing just a basic alarm system. The criminals have caught onto this and are working harder and smarter to move around it.

He advises readers to go the extra mile and have double security measures in place. This means doubling up on your burglar alarm equipment and installing the latest equipment. He shares an example: If intruders break through your bathroom window and are detected – their next move would be to enter the roof area where they will plan their next entrance. We are well aware that it is sometimes very hard to protect the entire roof space but know that there are products available to curb roof intrusions. Contact Atlas to beef up your security and be covered should this happen to you.

Monty continues that another frequent occurrence is criminals breaking into non alarmed areas – being ceilings, bathrooms, porches, garages and interleading doors. The criminals tend to hang around there to plan their next move. What he’s emphasizing is – if entry is gained into an area that’s not protected, always make sure that you have protection in place in an area where the criminals will next move to.

Once again Monty warns how important boundary gates are. Front door burglaries are still taking place due to a weak spot in front door and perimeter gates. He reminds readers that criminals scout around and do their homework prior to striking. And that is why doubling up on your security measures is a good idea.

Another known factor is that suspects are well aware that most of the outbuildings / wendy houses and carports are not alarmed. Ensure that wendy houses are secured. On a weekly basis, Monty finds that tools are being fetched out of a wendy house and used to break into the property. Bicycles, lawn mowers, garden furniture, copper and steel are still regular items on a criminals list. These items are then sold to dealers and is a form of income to the criminals.

Lastly Monty reminds readers that criminals are smarter than we think. They do their homework and are well aware of all the security measures and patrols in place prior to striking. His advice to homes and businesses that could be targeted in these scenarios, is to check your premises for weak points and possible easy access points and ensure that these are properly secured. When a burglar is ‘researching’ premises – the less weaknesses your business has, the less likely it is to become a target.

Stay safe and rest assured that your world is safe in Atlas’ hands.
