This week Monty Montgomery, Atlas Operations Manager, warns that, at the moment, crime is far too high in the city. Criminals are running amok and he, therefore, wants to address all the basics that we can do together to control crime.
Firstly with the bad weather conditions during winter, he advises readers to be extra alert and vigilant.
Monty urges communities to keep their properties locked and secured properly. Make sure that entry cannot be gained into your property. For example, a security gate is useless unless it is locked and the key is removed and secured! A series of small, but useful routines, correctly and conscientiously followed, will ensure that your overall security is the best it can be.
Home invasions – these are far too high to Monty’s liking. Your end-goal should be to not wake up with a suspect standing next to your bed with a weapon aimed at you. House robberies are rife at the moment. Yet again, Monty reports that it stems from negligence. During one incident, robbers simply entered through a door that was not locked. Avoid any confrontation with house robbers as they are often armed. Put internal security measures in place, such as a security barrier or door that separates the living areas from the bedrooms and install a panic button linked to an armed response company in the bedroom. If you are unfortunate enough to be confronted in your house, here are a few tips that will help you.
Armed Robberies – Monty also warns communities that armed robberies are real and on the rise mainly happening at business premises. Beware when entering shops especially at shopping centres and restaurants. Be aware of your surroundings. If you do notice something out of the ordinary, make sure you do the necessary to get help, protect yourself and get away if you’re able to.
Sadly this week a man was robbed while being stranded on the side of the road in Port Elizabeth. His vehicle ran out of petrol and while waiting for a friend – two men robbed him of his valuables as well as the car battery. Always make sure that you have enough fuel in your vehicle and that it’s roadworthy and serviced regularly.
Monty reminds readers that we do have various solutions to stay one step ahead of criminal elements. For security purposes we cannot go into great detail, but should readers wish to enquire about these safety measures, please contact our office and set up an appointment for one of our security agents to review your risk.
Technology is constantly changing and being updated, and the security alarm industry is no different. For this reason, we urge our readers to re-assess their current alarm system and other target hardening measures. Criminals are professionals – they study their target and know your home/business’s general set-up before breaking in. Therefore Atlas Security constantly improvises after burglaries and finds new ways to stay a step ahead of criminals.
Stay safe and rest assured that your world is safe in Atlas’ hands.
