This week, Monty Montgomery, Atlas Operations Manager, reports that crime is busy spiralling out of control. The number of incidents is far too high for his liking.

Monty issued a warning about theft from yards. He finds that residents are making it far too easy for criminals to enter their gardens and leaving their valuables unprotected. He warns that thieves are targeting trailers for their wheels, as well as copper pipes, aluminium and brass. These things might seem small but there’s a market out there for re-selling. Be sure to lock away moveable goods and protect your taps and water meters. Motor vehicles parked outside are also targeted for their wheels/rims.

Normally, dogs would bark hysterically when thieves are roaming around your neighbourhood. Do the necessary checks when your dog barks anxiously. Monty suggests investigating without putting yourself in danger. DO NOT go outside to investigate – rather switch on your outside lights and observe.

The latest crime trend is criminals targeting townhouse complexes. These burglaries are exceptionally high at the moment and find that criminals are moving from one complex to the other. They will target three units on the same night. Monty issued a reminder to owners to always arm their alarms and lock away valuables that are in the yards, lapas or Wendy Houses.

Next up, Monty pleads with the public to look out for their elderly family members. Firstly, make sure that they have an alarm system and know how to use it during the day and night. Ensure that they have a safe room that can lock should they find themselves in an emergency.

The elderly must please be aware of people knocking on doors while they are alone at home during the day, as they might have the intention of sussing out houses.

He also warns that elderly people were also recently targeted, tied up and beaten for loot. He urges families to look after their elderly as well as their children. The last thing we want happen is for them to be unexpectedly surprised by someone next to their bed.

Lastly, Monty mentions that daily window burglaries occur. Most of these windows have no magnetic contacts on them. He strongly suggests this as an additional deterrent.

Until next week. Rest assured – your world is safe in Atlas’ hands.
