Atlas Security Operations Manager, Monty Montgomery reports that the attacks on the elderly residents have increased dramatically. If you know of anyone elderly living alone, make sure that they have an alarm system, especially a panic button and that they know how to use it during the day and night. Ensure that they have a safe room that can be locked should they find themselves in an emergency.
Home invasions are happening on a regular and Monty urges all subscribers to please alert us or someone should you feel unsafe – never confront the perpetrators. If you hear something outside – alert Atlas Security, by you walking out you become vulnerable. It is important to safe guard yourself and your family – alert someone and wait for help. If you are home alone make sure you have a safe room where you can hide and alert someone on case of emergency.
Monty reiterated the fact that there are still too many vehicles that are not parked in the yard but outside. The increase in hijackings and theft of motor vehicles have sky rocketed, this contributes to the increase thereof. Please make sure that when you get home you park your vehicles and all gates and garages are locked. Parking your vehicle before its dark – puts you at less of a risk.
How do you safely get through the season?
When shopping for your gifts this season, you are sure to not overload yourself with packages all in one go – this means you are more focussed on your packages than who might be watching you as you make your way to your vehicle or other form of transport. Make sure you are in a position to be aware of your surroundings o that you can spot any potential muggers looking for Christmas loot.
When you are drawing cash, make sure you do so in a well-lit area, and avoid known ATM fraud hotspots – rather save this activity for the shopping mall or at the bank. Don’t be tempted to draw large amounts of cash.
Make sure when going to the beach that you leave as many valuables as possible at home, where your alarm is armed, rather than taking them with you to the beach. Once on the beach be sure that someone is always near your ‘camp’ keeping an eye on everyone’s belongings. Take turns to enjoy a splash about in the waves, instead of all running in together – leaving your belongings vulnerable.
Everybody loves to entertain during the holidays, however if you are outside swimming or braaing at the rear of your property you may be making the front of your property an easy target for preying criminals. Too many times this has happened where the front of the home was left unattended and all the ladies’ handbags were missing from the front living room. Make sure your home is secured and that valuables are kept in or near to the entertainment area where you will be occupying your home.
Lastly, If you’re going away, make sure that your Security Company has Access to your Property . Also ensure that you have a dedicated Keyholder who can assist Atlas in your absence. Stay safe and rest assured that your world is safe in Atlas’ hands.
