Monty’s Crime Report: Staying alert, even when you’re in the dark!
This week, Monty Montgomery, Atlas Security Operations Manager, proudly shares that he is super proud of his Armed Response team. Our Officers went beyond the call of duty by making multiple arrests while loadshedding was underway. State of the art technology, experience, teamwork and effective communication led to these successes.
Armed robbers are still active in the Metro but we’ve managed to prevent a few and even put some of them behind bars. With these arrests, the SAPS managed to link the robbers to many other outstanding dockets. The sad reality is that these criminals were extremely active and experienced, which is something to keep in mind if you’re ever confronted by suspects.
Hijacking and theft of motor vehicles are increasing. This week the SAPS arrested alleged hijackers. We rarely read of incidents where hijackers are arrested and are extremely proud of the SAPS and Armed Response Officers who assisted with this week’s arrest.
Monty wishes to thank the community for reporting suspicious behavior. More and more residents are reporting people carrying goods that could possibly be stolen goods. What criminals often do is dump their stolen items only to return at a later stage to collect it again when the heat is off the initial incident. So, if you see anyone carrying goods that look suspicious, be sure to report this to the SAPS or on your community social media groups.
Our biggest problem at the moment is serious attacks on security and emergency personnel. Let’s all work together to protect them.
Hello Darkness our old Friend…Residents are still finding themselves in the throes of loadshedding, and at the moment there is no light at the end of the tunnel either with talks of the blackouts lasting for another 18 months. It is a reality that power outages increase your security risk. Criminals KNOW when load shedding is planned and you and your family may be more susceptible during these times. If your back-up battery fails and your alarm system dies, keep all doors and windows locked and don’t investigate suspicious noises outside.
There has been little change in the burglary crime trends used by thieves. What has been trending this past week is that these intrepid criminals have been targeting schools, and home burglaries still show that techno-gadgets and flat screen TVs are popular affirmative shopping plunders. Garages and outbuildings are still popular targets for burglars.
It is important to remember, where practical and to avoid theft and loss, that every room and outbuilding in your home should be alarmed (and armed) – especially the garage, which is not only used to park your vehicles, but is also used to store a variety of personal goods and valuables – from sporting and camping equipment to tools and household equipment.
For more information on target hardening and the latest trends in security upgrades please contact our Sales Department on 0861 585 585 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange for a security professional to visit your home or business and reassess your risk.
Stay safe and rest assured, your world is secure in Atlas’ hands.
