Monty’s Crime Report: Taking the Target off of your premises.
This week, Monty Montgomery, Atlas Security Operations Manager, reiterates how important boundary gates are. Front door burglaries are still taking place due to weak spots in front doors and the opportunities that are linked for them when using the front door as a point of entry. He reminds readers that criminals scout around and do their homework prior to striking. And that is why doubling up on your security measures is a good idea.
He reminds readers that criminals are smarter than we think. They do their homework and are well aware of all the security measures and patrols in place prior to striking. His advice to homes and businesses that could be targeted in these scenarios, is to check your premises for weak points and possible easy access points and ensure that these are properly secured. When a burglar is ‘researching’ premises – the less weaknesses your business has, the less likely it is to become a target.
Affirmative shopping happens during the early hours of morning and if opportunity invites them in to the main house, they’ll grab the chance. Please keep an eye on your street specifically. If you see any suspicious people, alert your security company and share on your community social media platforms.
Monty urges our residents to be very careful. Do not trust anyone and do not share valuable information with anyone. You might think you can trust them, but they might be scouting for the criminals. Business owners should also take note of this and often have way more to lose. Make sure that you do not keep large sums of cash onsite. Valuable information and computers/servers should be well protected. Do not be negligent and do not wait until you become a victim.
Remember that vehicle theft and theft out of motor vehicles has become a daily occurrence. Be aware and alert. Look around when loading or unpacking your vehicle. Let’s all stay calm and secure our premises properly when leaving the premises or retiring for bed. Always double check everything at home and at the office.
Lastly, trust your animals. Dogs are brilliant at early warning. Trust them and investigate safely when they bark hysterically. Keep your pets safe and make sure that they cannot be harmed/poisoned by criminals. Monty warns readers that old trends and modus operadi’s always creep up again. If you’ve been a victim of crime, make sure that you make changes to prevent it from happening again.
Stay safe and rest assured, your world is secure in Atlas’ hands.
