The homeless capitalize on theft!
“Theft is a nightmare in the Metro at the moment,” reported Atlas Security Operations Manager, Monty Montgomery. This city is riddled with petty theft, right down to lucrative hits. Some suburbs are feeling the punch more than others for obvious reasons.
Monty shares that this crime has become so organized that they have a vehicle roaming around to pick up their loot. The suspects arrive in groups, they are dropped off in a specific area to “work” and drop their loot into their getaway vehicle. They target anything that’s valuable. Monty warns residents to not keep valuables in their vehicles. Do not leave a jacked on the seat/floor. These criminals know that there’s something hiding under the jacket.
Our Armed Response team recently found makeshift shelters. Stored in these shelters were home-made weapons, break in tools and drug paraphernalia. The shelters were demolished and all items were removed from the site. We will continue to work with all role players to clean up our streets. Crime has NO place in our city! These operations are preventative measures to ensure crime does NOT rise.
This week an Atlas subscriber reported that a house in their suburb – operating as a Bed and Breakfast – have now changed their rates to hourly rentals – this is a clear indication of what and who it’s attracting.
In relation to this, Monty believes that the Municipal bylaws should be exercised to control community crime. If the enforcement of these bylaws is strictly controlled then adherence will definitely kill petty crime which will most certainly have a positive effect on diminishing more serious crimes – much the same way as the ‘broken windows policy’ did in New York several years back. He urges residents not to accept the violation of a municipal bylaw, but rather react to it. Typical examples would be urinating in public, alcohol abuse in public, public indecency etc. Another concern is the abuse of alcohol in public as this leads to vandalism to properties resulting in unnecessary damages – this comes from all areas of the community, including bored teenagers.
Home invasions are still taking place – during the day and night. Commercial burglaries are still a hot topic due to easy access and valuable loot. The front door kickers have shifted their game to late afternoons and evenings. It is still an easy way of getting in and out of your home without being interrupted.
Stay safe and rest assured that your world is safe in Atlas’ hands.
