“Any arrest we can make within the next 14 days is crucial,” reported Monty Montgomery, Atlas Security Operations Manager. In order to get suspects through the system and where they belong before the end of the year, we need to have a successful 14 days ahead. Monty urges all community members to not only focus on larger crime reported but also assist with information about muggings, car thefts etc.
Armed robberies and home invasions have been suppressed due to the high visibility of the SAPS, Response and community Neighbourhood Watch Groups. We would like to put in a special mention of the SAPS that have made successful arrests over the past few months. We trust that all evidence will be managed accordingly and that our investigating officers can charge local syndicates.
The massive busts that have been happening over the past few weeks by the SAPS have been immense breakthroughs for all of us. This way we are able to have more control of the illegal substance abuse in our city. This can only cause them to slacken their operation and go quiet. Monty does however warn all subscribers; do not become too relaxed with the fact that it has been quieter around the NMB. We still need to be cautious and remain geared up to face what comes our way.
The community has really shown their involvement with the convoys and patrols with emergency services and leading law enforcement individuals. This way the community has really shown an understanding towards the urgency of taking back our streets!
Our CCTV that has recently been placed in certain spots in Port Elizabeth has assisted in maintaining an all round standard of quick responses and avoiding major losses.
With being observant, you automatically increase your chances of not being a victim – it may even prevent someone else from becoming a victim. When you see something, do something!
As one team with the SAPS and the community – we need to make it as hard as possible to have syndicates and suspects from entering our homes and business premises. This way we are forcing them to move their sly tactics elsewhere.
Monty would like to urge all those going away for the festive season to make sure you have reliable neighbours who will look after your home when you are not there. If you have keyholders, make sure they are on call when needed and that they are at your home every day to make sure all is still okay. Your alarm needs to be armed at all times.
To all the Schools closing over the festive period, we urge you to please make sure there are no valuables close to windows. Any devices that are not being used should be packed away in a safe room. The offices and school vehicles are always targeted – please be warned and make sure you have the necessary precautionary measures in place.
