The Atlas Security Operations Team has been responding to a series of more serious crimes this week than what was taking place so far during the lockdown period. Crimes including murder, hijackings, an attempted kidnapping, violent armed robberies, and the beast that is raising its head more often – house robberies.
A large amount of the incidents this week have involved armed criminals. They’re generally working in groups of 4 or 5, where at least one or two are armed with firearms and the rest carrying knives. Understanding the severity of the danger of these situations is step one to understanding how you can keep your family, and yourself, safe.
You may have heard the phrase “Don’t be a Hero”, well that is the exact phrase that can keep you alive if you become victim to one of these crimes. The general rule is to submit and give them the items that they’re wanting, your life is so much more valuable than material items. Stay as calm as possible and don’t cause the criminals to panic, remember that they are also in a state of panic as they want to get in and out as quickly as possible.
We do understand that staying calm and submitting is not the golden response, there is a time to fight and there is a time to submit, just make sure that you are trained to identify when and how to fight back. Fighting back without the necessary skills and training could put your entire family in more danger than they’re already in.
