Shared Intelligence Leads Atlas Security Armed Response To Vehicle After Hijacking
A hijacked vehicle, taken in the Mount Pleasant area, was swiftly located by Atlas Security’s Armed Response Officers late on Thursday afternoon.
A resident in Mount Pleasant called the Atlas Security control room to alert us of possible theft of a vehicle, upon arrival it was discovered that the suspects had hijacked a fully stocked vehicle loaded with cigarettes. The Atlas Security control room located and contacted the owner of the vehicle who then shared the GPS coordinates of the vehicle while our teams on the ground made a chase for the hijacked vehicle. Additional back up was called as the team tried to locate the whereabouts of the hijacked vehicle.
The suspects proceeded to drop off a number of the large boxes at 2 “drop off” points before heading to Kwazakhele where the Atlas Security Armed Response Officers, B14 and B8 recovered the hijacked vehicle. Over 150 large boxes of cigarettes were located at another location. The stolen items, including the hijacked vehicle, was handed over to the SAPS for further investigation. This is the 3rd hijacking incident where Atlas Security has responded during October.
Atlas Security would like to advise motorists to be vigilant when arriving outside a property and to be sure to stop parallel to the verge. If you stop parallel to the verge instead of turning into the driveway, it makes it more difficult for hijackers to jam your vehicle in. If you suspect that someone is following you rather drive past the property and contact your security company and the police for assistance.
