The weekend was a busy one for Atlas Security Armed Response Officers as they responded to a high number of break-ins. There were eight positive break-ins dispersed across Nelson Mandela Bay from Humewood, Mirimar through to Fairview.
Criminals are gaining access to client properties creatively, using tools and in some cases outright force. In one instance, a suspect lifted the roof sheeting using levers and a crowbar while others are entering homes by ripping out burglar bars and even kicking in the front door.
Intruder protection is the first line of defence. There are several simple things you can do to improve your home’s security, like adding a deadbolt to your front door, installing security sensors to your windows and doors and ensuring that your alarm and panic buttons are in good working order.
Avoid the old adage “If we had, we would have then we could have”. If you have a home alarm, ensure it is armed when you leave the home. Don’t leave valuable items in plain sight, trim your bushes and trees to make it more difficult for intruders to hide and leave your outdoor lights on at night.
Remember, the best form of defence is prevention. Early detection of a break-in is the best way to reduce damage and theft. The earlier we receive an emergency signal then the sooner we can respond.
If you require an alarm system or an armed response service, a home or business security assessment is a great first step. Send us a message here on Facebook or give us a call on 0861 585 585 as we will be happy to provide you with more information.
