• Avoid stopping in remote places where there is little passing traffic flow. These areas are often hot spots for hijackers and robbers.
  • If you park on the street, turn your wheels toward the curb until they lock. If anyone tries to steal your car they will struggle to correct the steering before taking the car.
  • Never leave your keys or your spare keys in your vehicle. An experienced thief knows all the hiding places.
  • Always ensure that your central locking has activated and properly locked all car doors.
  • Never leave valuables, such as handbags, laptops, money and cell phones, lying in full view of passers by.
  • When placing valuables in the boot, do not do it in full view of everyone in the area. This allows potential criminals to see what you have placed in the boot.
  • If going to a restaurant at night, park near a street light or well lit area.
  • Be alert and on the lookout for suspicious persons in the area watching drivers park their vehicles. Alert the Police and relay a clothing description of the person so that they can easily identify the person when they arrive.
  • If possible, park in CCTV monitored areas. This is often a deterrent to the more opportunistic criminals.
