Arrest Made On Marine Drive

Safety

It started with a member of the public flagging down our officer on Marine Drive. He'd just been robbed and injured by suspects who were breaking into vehicles in a nearby parking area, and he pointed out the taxi they'd escaped in, waiting at a bus stop across the road.

Officer B125 approached the taxi and asked the driver to wait for SAPS. Instead, the taxi drove off. B125 followed, calling in backup from our RIU team as the taxi made its way to a nearby shopping centre.

Three suspects got out of the taxi and headed into the centre, splitting up as they went. Our officers moved in to review the CCTV footage on site, working through the layout of the centre to establish where each suspect had gone.

Not long after, B10 spotted one of the suspects back out on Marine Drive, walking near the taxi again, and made the arrest at a nearby petrol station. Around the same time, B64 and B57 spotted the second suspect nearby and took him into custody too.

Two suspects arrested, off the back of one member of the public who didn't hesitate to flag us down, and a team that stayed on it until the job was done.
