Crime patterns never stand still. And neither do we.
Between 8 and 15 February 2026, Atlas Security responded to 110 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay. This reflects a 20.9 percent increase compared to the previous reporting period, where 91 incidents were recorded.
While overall activity increased, what stands out most is not just the volume, but the continued dominance of property-related crime and the consistency of our operational response across the metro.
A Closer Look at the Numbers
Theft remained the leading incident category, accounting for 32 cases, representing 29.1 percent of all incidents for the week.
The full breakdown is as follows:
Theft: 32
Burglary Positive: 18
Theft Attempt: 14
Vehicle Accident / Incident: 14
Burglary Attempt: 13
Medical: 8
Fire: 3
Robbery of Person: 2
Armed Robbery: 2
Trespassing: 1
Assault: 1
Murder: 1
Hijacking: 1
Property-related crimes alone, including theft, attempted theft, burglary positive and burglary attempt, accounted for 77 incidents. That represents 70% of total activity for the period. This confirms that opportunistic and property-driven crime remains the primary pressure point in our communities.
Busiest Day of the Week
Wednesday, 11 February, recorded the highest activity with 22 incidents in a single day. Midweek continues to show elevated volumes, reinforcing the importance of consistent patrol visibility and rapid armed response deployment throughout standard working days.
Most Affected Areas
The areas recording the highest number of incidents were:
Walmer: 8
Gqeberha Central: 8
Newton Park: 7
Overbaakens: 6
Cannon Hill: 5
Summerstrand: 5
The spread of incidents shows that activity is not isolated to one hotspot. Instead, it remains distributed across both residential and commercial.
Residential incidents totalled 58, while commercial incidents totalled 52, highlighting near equal pressure across both sectors.
Arrests and Operational Focus
During this period, 7 arrests were made. Our operational teams remain focused on proactive patrols, intelligence-led deployments and rapid coordination with law enforcement partners.
Crime is dynamic. It shifts, it adapts, and it tests response systems. What does not change is our commitment to visibility, responsiveness and community protection.
Behind every statistic is a rapid response, a coordinated team effort and a continued investment in technology, patrol infrastructure and trained personnel. Whether responding to theft, burglary, medical emergencies or high-risk crimes such as hijacking, Atlas Security remains positioned to act decisively.
The data tells a story of sustained activity. Our response tells a story of sustained commitment.
We continue to monitor trends, adjust deployments and strengthen community partnerships to ensure Nelson Mandela Bay remains protected.
