Crime patterns never stand still. And neither do we.
Between 8 and 15 February 2026, Atlas Security responded to 110 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay. This reflects a 20.9 percent increase compared to the previous reporting period, where 91 incidents were recorded.
While overall activity increased, what stands out most is not just the volume, but the continued dominance of property-related crime and the consistency of our operational response across the metro.
A Closer Look at the Numbers
Theft remained the leading incident category, accounting for 32 cases, representing 29.1 percent of all incidents for the week.

Property-related crimes alone, including theft, attempted theft, burglary positive and burglary attempt, accounted for 77 incidents. That represents 70% of total activity for the period. This confirms that opportunistic and property-driven crime remains the primary pressure point in our communities.
Busiest Day of the Week
Wednesday, 11 February, recorded the highest activity with 22 incidents in a single day. Midweek continues to show elevated volumes, reinforcing the importance of consistent patrol visibility and rapid armed response deployment throughout standard working days.
Most Affected Areas
The areas recording the highest number of incidents were:
Walmer: 8
Gqeberha Central: 8
Newton Park: 7
Overbaakens: 6
Cannon Hill: 5
Summerstrand: 5
The spread of incidents shows that activity is not isolated to one hotspot. Instead, it remains distributed across both residential and commercial.
Residential incidents totalled 58, while commercial incidents totalled 52, highlighting near equal pressure across both sectors.

During this period, 7 arrests were made. Our operational teams remain focused on proactive patrols, intelligence-led deployments and rapid coordination with law enforcement partners.

Arrest: Stolen Vehicle Recovered

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Atlas Security Armed Response Officers played a key role in recovering a stolen vehicle and assisting with the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with fraud and vehicle theft. Atlas Security’s Control Room received a phone call early hours of the morning regarding a white Mazda that had been stolen in South End the previous day. Our Armed response units and Atlas Security Armed Response Officer, Bravo 16 were notified to remain on alert for the vehicle.

Atlas Security apprehended a suspect at a primary school in Kariega after detecting suspicious activity on CCTV. The swift response prevented further theft, and SAPS arrested the suspect on charges of burglary and possession of break-in equipment.
