Earlier this morning Atlas Security Control Room received information regarding a stolen motorcycle from the Cotswold area. Our Rapid Intervention Units and Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched, with Armed Response Officer Bravo 8 positioning at the Cotswold Bridge a known escape route linking the N2 and Cape Road.
Within minutes, a suspect vehicle was identified travelling toward the N2. Through layered coordination between the Control Room, CCTV operators and our Armed Response Officers, it was confirmed the vehicle was transporting the stolen motorcycle.
Our Rapid Intervention Units began closing potential escape routes while Armed Response maintained observation. A pursuit followed during which shots were fired and a SAPS vehicle sustained damage. The suspects abandoned the vehicle at the corner of a New Brighton area.
RIU units and Armed Response Officers, along with another private security provider immediately secured the scene and assisted SAPS. The stolen motorcycle was successfully recovered, while the suspect getaway vehicle was also recovered and processed as evidence.
SAPS took over the investigation and the owner was informed of the recovery. The suspect vehicle is believed to be linked to a previous motorcycle theft in the area.
The stolen vehicle recovery was the result of coordinated teamwork between our Armed Response Officers, Rapid Intervention Units, a private security partner and SAPS, working together to prevent the suspects from escaping with the stolen property and delivering measurable protection on the ground.
