Crime

During the period 1 to 7 June 2026, Atlas Security responded to 98 incidents across the Nelson Mandela Bay area, including, Kariega (Uitenhage) and surrounding suburbs. The week saw a broadspread of criminal activity, with theft and burglary dominating, alongside aserious armed robbery, an assault on two teenagers, and a fatal vehicle accident. Here is a summary of the week’s key activity.

Walmer was the most active area for the week, recording 13 incidents, a mix of theft, burglary, and medical callouts. Central followed with 8 incidents, including an assault and a building fire. Other notable areas include Kamma Park (5), Newton Park (4), Mosel/Kariega (4), and Sidwell (4).

Ongoing Trend: Copper & Cable Theft

Copper and cable theft remained a persistent trend this week. Incidents were recorded in Korsten, Neave Industrial, Lorraine Manor, and Mount Pleasant, among others. Suspects continue to exploit open perimeters, cutting fences and removing copper from pipes, panels, and machinery.

Security Reminder

The week’s incidents reinforce the importance of basic security discipline. Several burglaries were made possible because alarms were NOT armed, doors were left unlocked, or perimeter walls had no spikes. Atlas Security urges all clients to ensure alarms are activated when leaving or going to sleep, and to report any suspicious activity immediately
