During the period 1 to 7 June 2026, Atlas Security responded to 98 incidents across the Nelson Mandela Bay area, including, Kariega (Uitenhage) and surrounding suburbs. The week saw a broadspread of criminal activity, with theft and burglary dominating, alongside aserious armed robbery, an assault on two teenagers, and a fatal vehicle accident. Here is a summary of the week’s key activity.

Walmer was the most active area for the week, recording 13 incidents, a mix of theft, burglary, and medical callouts. Central followed with 8 incidents, including an assault and a building fire. Other notable areas include Kamma Park (5), Newton Park (4), Mosel/Kariega (4), and Sidwell (4).
Ongoing Trend: Copper & Cable Theft
Copper and cable theft remained a persistent trend this week. Incidents were recorded in Korsten, Neave Industrial, Lorraine Manor, and Mount Pleasant, among others. Suspects continue to exploit open perimeters, cutting fences and removing copper from pipes, panels, and machinery.
Security Reminder
The week’s incidents reinforce the importance of basic security discipline. Several burglaries were made possible because alarms were NOT armed, doors were left unlocked, or perimeter walls had no spikes. Arrest: Stolen Vehicle Recovered

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Atlas Security Armed Response Officers played a key role in recovering a stolen vehicle and assisting with the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with fraud and vehicle theft. Atlas Security’s Control Room received a phone call early hours of the morning regarding a white Mazda that had been stolen in South End the previous day. Our Armed response units and Atlas Security Armed Response Officer, Bravo 16 were notified to remain on alert for the vehicle.

Atlas Security responded to 104 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay between 9 and 15 March 2026 - a 22.4% increase on the previous week. Incidents were spread across 48 suburbs, with Saturday 14 March the busiest single day of the week.

Theft Prevention Leads to Arrest at a Primary School in Kariega

Atlas Security apprehended a suspect at a primary school in Kariega after detecting suspicious activity on CCTV. The swift response prevented further theft, and SAPS arrested the suspect on charges of burglary and possession of break-in equipment.
