October Crime Snapshot: What Happened in Nelson Mandela Bay
General

October saw a noticeable rise in crime activity across the city. After removing CCTV-related cases, a total of 548 incidents were recorded, up from 458 in September. That’s a 19.65% increase, driven mostly by theft, attempted theft, burglary attempts and vehicle-related incidents.
Walmer, Summerstrand and Sidwell remained the busiest suburbs, while areas such as Alexander Park Industrial, Jubilee Park, Pinelands, and Millard Grange were among the least affected with only one incident each.
Despite the increase in activity, Atlas Security teams continued to make an impact on the ground. Eighteen arrests were made during October, many linked to theft, burglary and robbery-related callouts. Our officers also travelled 298 878 kilometres throughout the month to maintain visibility and respond quickly when residents needed help.
The busiest day of the month was Saturday, 25 October, with 33 incidents recorded across the Metro.
With the festive season approaching, we urge residents to stay alert, report suspicious activity and ensure their home security systems are working correctly. Our teams will continue to increase visibility and focus on high-risk areas as we move into the final part of the year.
