Weekly Crime Report: 7–13 September 2026

Atlas Security responded 90 incidents across the region between 7 and 13 September 2026, representing an 11% increase from the previous week, when 81 incidents were recorded.

While the overall number increased, the data shows that the majority of incidents were concentrated around theft-related activity rather than more serious violent crime.

Theft remains the most common incident

‍

Theft was once again the most frequently reported incident during the week, with 35 cases recorded.

A further 12 attempted theft incidents were also reported, meaning theft and attempted theft together accounted for 47 of the 90 incidents recorded.

That works out to more than half of all incidents attended to during the week.

Burglary activity remains notable

‍

Atlas Security responded to 14 positive burglary incidents, together with 5 attempted burglaries.

These incidents remain an important reminder for property owners to regularly check that alarm systems, outdoor beams, electric fencing and other security measures are working correctly.

Where possible, clients should also avoid leaving easily accessible items outside or in areas visible from the street.

Medical and vehicle-related incidents

‍

Not every call for assistance was crime-related.

During the week, Atlas Security responded to 8 medical incidents and 7 vehicle accidents or vehicle-related incidents.

These figures highlight the broader role that armed response and control room teams play in assisting communities, often being among the first people on scene when help is required.

The week's remaining incidents included:

• 2 robberies of a person
• 2 house robberies
• 1 armed robbery
• 1 attempted murder
• 1 trespassing incident
• 1 fire
• 1 assault

Most affected areas

‍

The areas recording the highest number of incidents during the week were:

‍

Overbaakens, Summerstrand, Walmer, Gqeberha Central and Lorraine.

‍

Overbaakens recorded the highest number of incidents, with 9 cases, followed by Summerstrand and Walmer with 6 incidents each.

‍

These figures do not necessarily mean that an area is unsafe. Weekly crime figures can fluctuate significantly depending on a small number of incidents, specific hotspots or increased reporting.

The value of monitoring the data is in identifying patterns and ensuring that patrols and operational resources remain focused where they are most needed.

Least affected areas

‍

A number of suburbs recorded only one incident during the period, including Miramar, Kensington, Walmer Downs, Sherwood and Fernglen.

While lower incident numbers are encouraging, residents are still encouraged to maintain normal security precautions and avoid becoming complacent.

11 suspects apprehended or arrested

‍

During the week, Atlas Security teams were involved in the apprehension, detention or arrest of at least 11 suspects.

Several of these incidents also resulted in stolen property being recovered.

These outcomes demonstrate the value of rapid reporting, active patrols and close cooperation between security teams, the community and law enforcement.

What residents can do

The week's statistics once again show that many incidents involve opportunistic theft.

Residents can reduce their risk by ensuring gates and doors are secured, vehicles are locked, valuables are not left visible and alarm systems are activated when properties are unattended.
