May 2026: A Look Back
Crime
_Monthly.jpg)
During May 2026 our control room and response teams responded to 496 incidents across Nelson Mandela Bay and the surrounding areas. This is up from 444 incidents in April 2026, an increase of 11.7 percent month on month, which reflects both a busier month on the ground and our community continuing to report quickly.
The numbers below reflect every call our teams attended through the month, from property-related incidents to medical emergencies and road accidents where our officers were first on the scene.
Theft remained the most common incident type, with a large share linked to copper piping, cables, and outdoor fittings. Encouragingly, a meaningful portion of attempted theft were stopped before any loss, with our teams responding to 71 attempted theft incidents and 40 attempted burglaries where suspects fled before getting away with anything.
496 incidents responded to:
• 291 at residential properties and 205 at commercial properties
• 145 thefts responded to, alongside 71 attempted theft that were disrupted
• 67 burglaries and 40 attempted burglaries attended
• 82 medical calls supported
• 37 road accidents and 10 fires attended where our officers assisted on scene

Staying ahead of crime
Responding quickly is only part of the picture. We are constantly investing in the technology and partnerships that help us prevent incidents before they happen. Our growing network of CCTV cameras across Nelson Mandela Bay gives our control room more eyes on the ground, helping us spot suspicious activity early and guide our response teams straight to where they are needed.
We have also partnered with Vumacam, one of the leading names in smart surveillance, to strengthen our camera network across the metro. This partnership expands our coverage and brings advanced monitoring technology into the way we protect our clients and our community every day.
Smart cameras, real people, and fast response working together. That is how we keep your world secure.
