Atlas Securityβs Rapid Intervention Unit delivered two decisive vehicle recovery successes on 25 January 2026, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-led response, rapid deployment and unwavering operational readiness across Nelson Mandela Bay.

In the early hours of the morning, Armed Response Officer Bravo20 received information via a private community social media group regarding a silver vehicle that had been hijacked earlier.

Upon arrival, armed response officer Bravo 20 successfully recovered the vehicle. Further investigation confirmed the hijacking occurred near New Brighton, where the victim was assaulted. The swift response prevented further loss and ensured the situation was stabilised without escalation.

Additionally, later that afternoon, armed response officer Bravo 8 responded to a phone-in alert from a vehicle owner reporting a hijacking from an unknown location.

Acting without delay, armed response officer Bravo 8 initiated a targeted response and successfully located the vehicle in the KwaZakhele area.

Armed Response officer Bravo 8 remained on site, maintaining control and visibility while awaiting SAPS to formally take possession of the recovered vehicle.

Arrest: Penford, Uitenhage

In the early hours of the morning, Atlas Securityβs Control Room received a phone in alert from a client in Penford, Uitenhage, reporting a suspected theft from his vehicle. The client confirmed that his credit card holder was missing and advised that it had been left inside the vehicle. Our Armed Response Officers was immediately dispatched, with the client verifying his details while checking if any additional items had been taken.

The first week of January provided an early indication of what crime patterns across Nelson Mandela Bay are shaping up to look like in 2026. Between 1 and 7 January, Atlas Security responded to 108 incidents across the metro and apprehended 24 suspects linked to multiple crimes.

Swift Response Leads to Copper Theft Arrest in Newton Park
