The past 24 hours delivered a powerful message.
Persistent infrastructure theft will not be tolerated.
Atlas Security successfully assisted in the arrest of two suspects following repeated incidents of cable theft and damage to critical infrastructure near the railway line in the Uitenhage area.
Information was initially received via social media where videos and reports confirmed multiple males actively stealing cables near the Uitenhage Train Station railway line.
In the early hours of the morning, while conducting routine patrols, our armed response officers observed a large bushfire near the railway station.
During further investigation, SAPS confirmed that the same suspects had returned and were busy with cable theft. A coordinated response involving our armed response team and SAPS.
Later that day, it was confirmed that the suspects had once again returned to dig up cables near the power station. Armed response officer Bravo 49 responded immediately. One suspect ran towards Bravo 49 and was successfully apprehended on scene.
While securing the suspect, members of the public alerted Bravo 49 to a second suspect hiding in a nearby tree. Acting swiftly, Bravo 49 located and apprehended the second suspect, securing both individuals on scene.
SAPS members attended the scene and a case was formally opened for theft and damage to infrastructure.
This arrest reinforces an important reality. Criminals targeting essential infrastructure may persist, but they cannot outrun vigilance, intelligence and decisive response.
Atlas Security remains committed to working alongside SAPS and key stakeholders to ensure infrastructure crime is identified, intercepted and brought to an end protecting communities and essential services every step of the way.
