Swift Response Leads to Copper Cable Theft Arrest in Sydenham

Crime

On Saturday morning, while attending to a call in the Sydenham area, Atlas Security’s Armed Response Officer Bravo20 was approached by a security officer.

The security officer reported four males cutting cables along the railway line and provided a clothing description. Our Armed Response Officer Bravo 20 was immediately dispatched to investigate.

Within minutes, a suspect matching the description was located in the Sydenham area, pushing a trolley containing approximately 20 metres of copper cable.

Through swift action and decisive intervention, the suspect was detained on scene.

SAPS was immediately notified and responded to the scene, where the suspect was formally arrested for possession of copper wire and the matter was handed over for further investigation.

With cable theft on the rise, this arrest plays a significant role in reducing damage to essential infrastructure across the metro. Swift intervention and coordinated action between our armed response officers and SAPS contribute meaningfully to addressing this ongoing challenge and protecting critical services relied upon by the community.
